Sazana
The Princess of Old Thamari, twenty years old in the year of the war, and a soldier of the Agojie, the women's regiment of the King's guard, since she was twelve. Sazana is muscular and fierce, her long braids cuffed in gold, a winged pendant of Isis at her chest and marks upon her brow. She rides Razana, a Great Beast, and calls hawks and lions to her side with the Shepherd's Call. She heals constantly, and every healing takes something from her body that never comes back.

Holding the river road in the Great Archaic War, she takes a cut in her left side that no one is ever able to close.
She survives the war, gives the water-keepers of the Etí Odò the shape of their keeping and lives to see it hold. Selabẹ́ walks beside her for the rest of her life and lays her in the Fire Tamas, where Razana lies across the door.
